A 53-year-old man and his three passengers died this afternoon in a collision on Highway 99 at Oswald Road, south of Yuba City.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1997 Toyota Camry was westbound on Oswald Road approaching Highway 99 about 2:30 p.m. as a 2008 Mercedes S550 southbound on Highway 99 approached the intersection. Stop signs are posted at the intersection for traffic entering Highway 99, and for some reason the driver of the Toyota entered the intersection directly in front of the Mercedes, according to a CHP news release.
The front of the Mercedes struck the Toyota between the front and rear passenger door, causing the left rear passenger to be ejected from the vehicle. The Mercedes continued to travel south and came to rest in a ditch on the west side for southbound Highway 99, south of Oswald Road.
All four occupants of the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene. The three passengers were all reported to be men in their early 40s. They and the driver were all from Yuba City. The names of the four men have not been released pending notification of family.
