Quilting show at temple
What: The River City Quilters’ Guild show continues this weekend at the Scottish Rite Temple. Hundreds of traditional and contemporary quilts are on display. Show attendees may cast their votes for the Viewers’ Choice award. The guild promotes quilting, the use of textiles, quilting techniques and history in the Sacramento area. A highlight of the show – which includes a country store, a silent auction and demonstrations – is the “Opportunity Quilt,” which serves as a fundraising vehicle for the organization and was made by 25 different applique artists.

Cost: Admission is $7 per day. Children 12 and younger are admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Proceeds go to support guild activities.
All about Donner Party
What: View replicas of rarely seen original Donner Party documents from the Sutter’s Fort Collection at “Hand on History: The Donners and Other Emigrant Wagon Parties.” In the winter of 1846-47, more than 80 emigrants became trapped in Sierra snows. The Donner Party was composed of many different families and individuals whose destination was Sutter’s Fort. Rescue parties of volunteers assembled at the fort, where they gathered mules and packs and a variety of food supplies. Visitors can hear the mysterious and haunting stories of the ordeal.

Prepare for snow season
What: The Snowbomb and Snowboard Festival will prepare winter enthusiasts with ski resort exhibits, gear booths, activities and sales at Cal Expo. More than 100 exhibitors are scheduled to attend. Attendees purchasing a “Powder Pass” will receive two lift tickets to use at different resorts. A VIP ticket will also include unlimited beer and wine tasting for adults.
