Kudos to: UC Davis student debate team from the Department of Entomology

Accomplishment: Won the debate championship at the Entomological Society of America’s annual meeting

Details: Teams involved in the debates prepare for more than eight months. Participants must be in an entomology (the study of insects) program. The winning team receives $500 and the right to display a traveling trophy at its university.

Kudos to: Vision Service Plan employees

Accomplishment: Donated time and supplies to spruce up the yards and fix fences of Rancho Cordova homes.

Details: About 50 VSP employees performed work such as weed pulling, shrub planting, painting and fence repair at the five homes and a neighborhood entry. The projects were coordinated through the city of Rancho Cordova’s volunteer program.

Kudos to: Alyssa Oh, Rocklin athlete

Accomplishment: Oh claimed the girls 11-12 age group double mini-trampoline gold medal at the 2013 World Trampoline and Tumbling Age Group Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Details: According to USA Gymnastics, in the double-mini competition, the athlete makes a short run, leaps onto a small two-level trampoline, executes an aerial maneuver and dismounts onto a landing mat.
