St. Baldrick’s event makes ‘bald’ statement

March 10, 2014 10:28 PM

The 12th annual series of St. Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving events came to Sacramento on Monday at deVere’s Irish Pub to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

To show solidarity with children battling cancer, “heroes” shave their heads in front of spectators in return for pledges of financial support to benefit the cause.

Another event in the series is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Westfield Galleria at Roseville.

At right, Michale Porter, 11, checks out his new haircut in a mirror. Below, the enthusiastic crowd takes pictures of the action during Monday’s downtown event, hosted by the Keaton Raphael Memorial organization.
