The estranged husband of a woman fatally stabbed Tuesday morning in the Meadowview area has been identified by Sacramento police as the suspect in her death.
Police described Michael Williams, 51, as a transient and said he may be hiding in the south Sacramento area near 24th Street and Florin Road. He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing about 220 pounds, with brown eyes and hair that is a little longer than shown in photos.
Family members say they believe Tanganyika Williams, 48, had gone to see her estranged husband when she was stabbed.
David Williams Jr. said the victim was his mother. She was found shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday on the sidewalk near 24th Street and Meadowview Road with a stab wound to the upper body and later died at an area hospital.

“My mom was a happy-go-lucky person who always liked to smile and have fun,” said David Williams, the eldest of four adult children ranging in age from 24 to 30. “She loved her children and her grandchildren.”
David Williams said his mother and Michael Williams, who is not the father of her children, were separated and Tanganyika Williams was living with her sister. He said the couple had been involved in a dispute a few days earlier, and the family has been unable to reach Michael Williams since her death.
Police said from the outset that they did not believe the stabbing was a random incident.
Police spokeswoman Officer Michele Gigante said officers responded about 7:50 a.m. after receiving a call from someone in the neighborhood who said a woman was on the ground and was yelling. The caller wasn’t sure what was wrong but thought the woman might have been shot. When officers arrived, they determined that the victim had been stabbed, not shot.
A grandmother of two youngsters, Tanganyika Williams loved children and was in the process of opening a day care business, her son said.
He urged anyone with information about her death to come forward.
“This was our mother and this should not have happened to her,” he said.
Services for Tanganyika Williams are pending.
