Sacramento County’s Housing Authority will open the wait list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly known as Section 8) at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency said interested parties can apply online at www.sacwaitlist.com through 11:59 p.m. Sept. 26.
The HCV program assists extremely low-income families in renting units available on the open market. The families pay a portion of their income toward rent and the Housing Authority, with funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development paying the remainder.
There is no cost to apply for housing, and a credit report is not needed to complete the process. SHRA did warn prospective applicants to apply at the designated wait list site, and avoid using a search engine or another website, where fees and improper requests for personal information might be requested.

Officials said wait list preference is given to families living or working in Sacramento County, households including someone who is permanently disabled and households currently paying more than 50 percent of gross income toward rent.
