Electricity will be off on Saturday throughout Chester, Westwood and parts of the Lake Almanor area while Pacific Gas and Electric Co. installs new power poles.
The scheduled power outage will start at 6 a.m. and last until 6 p.m., said Paul Moreno, a public information official for the utilities company.
The 12-hour service interruption will allow crews to safely install five new wooden utility poles that support both electric transmission and distribution power lines between Hamilton Branch and Chester. The newer poles will be stronger and more reliable, reducing the likelihood of future unplanned power outages in the area, Moreno said.
Work will be going on simultaneously in several locations to minimize the outage time. While poles are being replaced, PG&E crews will also perform maintenance at the Chester substation and replace pole cross arms, said Moreno.
