Here are some 9/11 memorial events in the Sacramento area this weekend

Sunday marks the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Here’s are some events the Sacramento area that will remember and honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives:

Cal Expo’s 9/11 Memorial

1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento

Cal Expo will open its Memorial Plaza in observance of the 21st anniversary of 9/11. The event is free to the public and runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Cal Expo September 11 Memorial Plaza holds a small replica of the World Trade Center, a fountain that displays the names of victims of the attack, a bell tower and more.

Military, law enforcement and U.S. Rep. Ami Bera will attend as guest speakers. Speakers will begin at 9 a.m. Seating is first come, first served, according to the Cal Expo website.

Free parking is available in Lot B.

The Memorial Star Climb

1215 K Street, Sacramento

Firefighters in the area can register to climb over a hundred stories of the Esquire Tower in downtown Sacramento in of honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

The $29.99 registration is open to a limited number of sworn firefighters. The first 343 firefighters who sign up will be able to participate in climbing 110 stories starting at 8 a.m, according to the event’s website.

Firefighters are asked to attend the climb with all of their gear, or full turnout.

The organizations allows firefighters to sign up for the standby list after the initial spots are filled, because sometimes people don’t show up.

Patriot Day at Sutter Health Park

400 Ballpark Drive, West Sacramento

The Sacramento River Cats, along with the Association of the U.S. Army, the Wounded Warrior Program and the Sacramento Veterans Resource Group, will host the 319th Signal Battalion return from the Middle East, according to Eventbrite.

The event is meant to celebrate the accomplishments of the 319th Signal Battalion and honor the lives lost on 9/11.

Tickets are $20. The celebration will begin at 12:30 p.m. and end at 4:30 p.m.

9/11 memorial service in Folsom

403 Stafford St, Folsom

On Sunday at 8:46 a.m., the Folsom Fire Department will briefly gather to commemorate sacrifices made on 9/11, according to the department’s Facebook page.

The fire department asked the public to take a moment out of their morning to attend the memorial at Folsom City Lions Park.

Rocklin’s Patriot Day Parade

4000 Rocklin Road, Rocklin

Rocklin is hosting a Patriot Day event at Rocklin Quarry Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to honor and express gratitude for first responders and law enforcement, according to the city’s website.

Rocklin first responders, military, firefighters and police officers will attend. The event will feature a performance from the local high school jazz band, a firefighter extraction demonstration, police drone and K-9 demonstrations, food trucks and more.

Patriot Day is a free family event hosted by Rocklin Public Safety, according to the event flier.
