The next chance for showers is Friday night as the second in a series of weak weather systems tracks through Northern California.
The 0.09 of a inch that fell in Sacramento on Wednesday morning was no drought-buster, but any rain is good rain after years of drought.
Less cloud cover to retain heat this morning has allowed temperatures to lower a few degrees, when compared to Wednesday morning. A weak Pacific cold front is expected to approach the coast tonight as it rotates around the bottom of a low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska, according to the National Weather Service.
The approaching cold front will bring clouds to the Sacramento region and slightly warmer temperatures Thursday night. Light rain is expected to spread into the coastal range early Friday morning with a chance of showers over much of Sacramento region by Friday evening.

Unfortunately, the weak frontal system will mostly split as it moves inland so precipitation will be light.
Sunday is the warmest day in the 7-day forecast. A high of 77 degrees is forecast for Sacramento on Sunday.
Another slightly stronger Pacific frontal system is forecast to come ashore Monday, delivering clouds, much cooler temperatures and the threat of showers in the valley and snow to the higher elevations.
