Two dead in head-on vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Colfax, authorities say

Roadway fatality

A fatal vehicle collision Saturday morning caused lane closures on eastbound Interstate 80 in Colfax, law enforcement officials said.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced on X, formerly Twitter, that two people died in a “deadly head-on crash” and all eastbound lanes of I-80 were closed at Canyon Way.

California Highway Patrol and Placer County deputies were on scene to divert traffic off of the interstate. According to the Sheriff’s Office post on X, the crash happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

The lanes reopened at 9:22 a.m. Saturday, a Placer County law enforcement official said in an X post.

CHP authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
