Evacuations lifted for Jerusalem fire (with map of California blazes)

All evacuations for the Jerusalem fire, which has burned 25,146 acres in Napa and Lake counties, were lifted Saturday afternoon.

“The fire’s activity has really died down over the last couple of days, especially in the areas where the homes that have been evacuated are located,” said Daniel Berlant, spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The fire, which started Aug. 9 in the Jerusalem Valley area, is 80 percent contained and should be completely contained by Monday, Berlant said. It has destroyed 9 homes and 18 outbuildings.

This weekend’s projected triple-digit weather and the continuation of gusty winds does increase the potential for flare ups or hot spots, Berlant said. But the conditions shouldn’t deter firefighters from the predicted containment date.

“That’s why we still have well over 2,000 firefighters assigned to this fire, even though the hot spots are out, making sure we finish that containment line around the fire,” Berlant said.
