Man using walker killed in collision with truck in Antelope

A pedestrian using a walker died early Friday evening when he was struck by a pickup truck while crossing a street in the Antelope area.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Todd Van Lindt said the collision occurred about 5:45 p.m. on U Street near Watt Avenue. He said the pedestrian, described as an older man, was crossing U Street either northbound or southbound in a poorly lighted area and was not in a crosswalk. The man was struck by a Toyota Tacoma pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of family.

Van Lindt said the driver of the truck stopped and was cooperating with investigators. He was not injured.

Van Lindt said neither alcohol nor speed appear to have been factors in the collision.
