The Folsom City Council on Tuesday approved a ban on fires in parks and open space except in designated picnic areas.
Fires must be contained in barbecues in designated picnic areas under the “urgency” ordinance that went into effect after the City Council’s vote.
Fire Chief Ronald Phillips said he wanted the ban approved because of dry conditions caused by the drought and the large amount of open space in Folsom.
The council voted 4-0 in favor of the ban. Councilman Jeff Starsky was absent.
