Sacramento area closures due to ‘Pineapple Express’ storm

With heavy rainfall and high winds expected throughout Northern California this week, various institutions have announced closures and event cancellations. The Sacramento Bee will keep this running list updated throughout the storm.

▪  The Sacramento Zoo is closed Thursday due to anticipated high winds and localized flooding.

▪  Macy’s Theatre of Lights performances in Old Sacramento on Thursday night have been canceled.

▪  Fairytale Town in Sacramento is closed Thursday. The Winter Wonderland attraction that was supposed to begin Thursday will open Friday if the weather is clear.

▪  The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is closed Thursday.

▪  The Effie Yeaw Nature Center and trails in Carmichael are closed Thursday.

▪  The Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink at Downtown Plaza is closed Thursday.

▪  Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley closed early Thursday afternoon due to high winds and rain.

▪  The Courtland, Isleton and Walnut Grove libraries are closed Thursday. Sacramento Public Library is extending due dates and holds at all locations to deter patrons from unnecessary travel.

▪  The Neighborhood Santa and Food Truck Mania event in Roseville have been canceled Thursday.

▪  The Long Pool at Sacramento State is closed all day Thursday and during the morning on Friday.

▪  UC Center Sacramento has canceled its Thursday Speaker Series talk.

▪  The Palms Playhouse in Winters has canceled Thursday’s show with Candye Kane.

▪  Sacramento County is waiving redemption fees through Sunday to pick up lost pets at its Bradshaw Animal Shelter.

Schools

▪  St. Francis High School in Sacramento has canceled classes Thursday.

▪  Jesuit High School in Carmichael has canceled classes Thursday.

▪  Sacramento Country Day School is closed Thursday.

▪  Lake Tahoe Unified School District sent students home Thursday and canceled classes Friday.

▪  St. Mark’s Lutheran School in Citrus Heights has canceled classes Thursday.

▪  Sacramento Waldorf School in Fair Oaks has canceled classes and school events Thursday.

▪  California Montessori Project has canceled classes at all six campuses Thursday.
