Earthen dike at Folsom Lake to be repaired

One of the earthen dikes that forms Folsom Lake will undergo repairs, starting Tuesday, to prevent seepage.

Dike 1 is the northernmost of eight earthen dikes that enclose Folsom Lake. It lies on the lake’s western shore, along Vogel Valley Road in Granite Bay.

The work is the latest phase in a long-running program by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to strengthen the reservoir against seepage and earthquakes. It involves excavating some of the soil that makes up Dike 1, installing a drainage system, and then placing new surface material.

Construction will start Tuesday and is estimated to be completed on April 30. Trail users in the area can expect minor detours during construction.

An environmental assessment has been completed on the project and is available online. For more information, contact project manager Kyle Keer at (916) 989-7295 or kkeer@usbr.gov.
