Come May 4, as many as 2,000 Sacramento residents will be hoping the “Force” is with them as they take to a public park to engage in massive light-sword battle.
The battle is being organized by New Mind Space, which is not affiliated with Lucasfilm, Disney or any of the multinational companies connected to the Star Wars movie series.
For $5, participants get a plastic light stick, with $1 going to Make-A-Wish, according to the event’s website and Facebook page. Serious participants can bring their own light sword to the 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. event at Fremont Park, 1515 Q Street.

Since the swords don’t cause actual injury or even make a sound, injury-reporting is on the honor system, said Kevin Bracken, who is behind the traveling battle.
Previous events have sold out, so Bracken advised interested parties to go online to reserve their weapon.
