State Fair opens at Cal Expo

The California State Fair begins its 17-day run at 10 a.m. at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento. Also on Friday, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. inside California Building A, on the west side, celebrating the Sacramento branch of the NAACP’s exhibit at the fair. The exhibit celebrates the organization’s 100 years of service and features a photo and video gallery. Diversity employment event scheduled

More than 30 major employers are scheduled to be on hand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 16th annual Diversity Employment Day Career Fair at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza, 300 J St., Sacramento. Multicultural, bilingual, people with disabilities, women, LGBT, veterans and mature candidates are encouraged to attend. Event is for those 18 and older.
