Applause for the week of Feb. 2

Kudos to: Angela Fulton’s fifth-grade class at Grand Oaks Elementary in Citrus Heights

Accomplishment: Collected pennies to pay for a lunch for homeless children

Details: Rather than using their jar of pennies to buy something for themselves, students purchased food for 40 children at Mustard Seed School. They assembled the lunches – a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a box of raisins, a banana, a bag of pretzels, a cup of applesauce and a bottle of water – for Mustard Seed.

Kudos to: Observant Folsom resident

Accomplishment: Found Alex, a missing 15-year-old blind and deaf Siberian husky

Details: Alex escaped from his owner’s residence near Vista del Lago High School. A Folsom resident, who saw the city of Folsom’s Facebook post about the missing dog, found Alex wandering about two miles from his home. Alex is now home.

Kudos to: Sacramento City Manager John Shirey

Accomplishment: Received Wes McClure Award of Distinction at the League of California Cities City Managers’ Department meeting

Details: The award annually honors a city manager who demonstrates outstanding service, leadership, ethics, expertise and innovation.
