The Sacramento Kings on Tuesday named four area restaurant groups that will be featured in the concessions lineup at their new downtown arena.
Paragary Restaurant Group, Selland Family Restaurants, LowBrau Bierhall and Star Ginger will offer food and drinks when the new Golden 1 Center opens for business in October 2016. Kings officials said other food and drink offerings will be announced at a later date.
The Kings said the announcement fulfills the team’s vow almost a year ago to feature area restaurants in the $507 million arena.
“Having these homegrown businesses in the arena intentionally magnifies the pride and passion of this region,” said team President Chris Granger in a prepared statement.
Fans will find wood-fired pizzas, bratwurst, chicken banh mi sandwiches and traditional burgers. “Where else in America can you go to watch a basketball game while savoring a banh mi sandwich or Thai chicken wings with papaya salad?” said Star Ginger founder Mai Pham in a prepared statement.
Last October the team hired Legends Hospitality, a food-service and sports-marketing company founded by the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees, to oversee the food and beverage operations at the new arena. Legends officials quickly committed themselves to a “farm to fork” operation with an accent on Sacramento restaurant brands.
Some of the restaurant groups that will be featured at Golden 1 have already been working on the planning of the new arena’s food and beverage offerings. Michael Tuohy, the chef at Sacramento’s popular LowBrau sausage restaurant, was named executive chef. Randall Selland and Randy Paragary were named to an advisory committee.
“We’re working with some of Sacramento’s dining pioneers to create a wide range of menu options,” Tuohy said in a prepared statement.
