Redding police are investigating a bizarre suspected break-in at a furniture store where a man’s body was found after a broken water line flooded the business.
Police say they were called to Oak Tree Furniture on Bechelli Lane at about 12:30 p.m. Monday.
The owners of the business saw water leaking from the building and found that the interior of the store was flooded, police said. After entering the building, the owners found a man in his late 20s or early 30s dead in a corridor that can only be accessed from the roof, police said.
“There was damage to the walls and it appeared that the subject was attempting to possibly gain access to the building,” a police news release said. “At some point the subject broke a water line which resulted in the flooding.”
