A Dixon fire burned through 500 tons of hay early Thursday on a farm near Highway 113 and Fry Road, Dixon officials said.
Division Chief John Malone from the Dixon Fire Department said fire crews would let the fire, which started at around 5:45 a.m., burn out since it was more effective and required less resources.
“It causes big mess when you try to spread it around, it’s a big nightmare,” Malone said of the hay fire. “It’s actually quicker to let it burn out and it’s less smoky.”
The fire was not a threat to any nearby structures and no evacuations were in place early Thursday, Malone said. Crews and the property owner would monitor the fire, he said.
The 500 tons of hay were stacked and waiting to be transported, according to Malone. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
