A California Highway Patrol SUV and a station wagon collided early Wednesday at a Carmichael intersection, resulting in minor-to-moderate injuries.

The crash at Winding Way and Manzanita Avenue was first reported about 4:30 a.m. A special CHP investigation team was called to the scene. The intersection was partially or fully closed at various times during the morning commute before reopening just before 8 a.m., the CHP reports.

Current Sacramento traffic conditions

CHP spokesman Officer Chad Hertzell said two officers were traveling northbound in their SUV on Manzanita Avenue at the same time the station wagon was traveling eastbound on Winding Way. Both went into the intersection at the same time and collided.

It was unclear which driver had the green light. The driver of the station wagon received moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Both officers received minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital.
