Two dogs were rescued from a house that sustained heavy fire damage Monday morning in south Sacramento.

The fire at the home in the 4800 block of Forest Parkway was reported at about 10:50 a.m. Nobody was home when firefighters arrived.

However, as firefighters were putting out the blaze, a resident came home and told them two dogs were inside, a fire department spokesman said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
