A Sacramento County jury has found a 31-year-old man guilty of child abuse for inflicting second-degree burns on a 2-year-old child.
On the morning of Oct. 17, 2014, Joseph Zeno was alone with a 2-year-old girl, a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release said.
Her mother later noticed a large blister on the bottom of the child’s foot, according to prosecutors. The child was treated at Shriners Hospital for second-degree burns covering the bottom of her foot.
It was determined that the only item that could have caused the burn was a hot frying pan, authorities said.

Zeno denied injuring the child, but he admitted he had a form of discipline called “hot feet” that involved smacking the bottom of a child’s foot with his hand or a hanger.
Zeno is to be sentenced Dec. 2 by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Kevin McCormick.
