An explosion that seriously injured two people at a south Sacramento County home Friday afternoon was caused by a butane honey oil lab, fire officials say.
The illegal drug operations use highly volatile butane gas to extract and concentrate the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Explosions and fires from the labs can inflict severe burns.
Capt. Michelle Eidam of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the explosion was reported at 2:04 p.m. in the 8600 block of Tiogawoods Drive. She said one person who was in the home was taken to an area hospital by ambulance. The second person drove to a hospital for treatment.
Eidam said the house sustained significant structural damage.
