A 1-year-old girl died after her father accidentally ran her over with his car at a North Sacramento home Saturday afternoon, Sacramento police said.
The girl “was in the front yard playing with a 6-year-old sibling” when her father arrived at the house in the 900 block of Elmridge Way, said Officer Matthew McPhail, a Sacramento police spokesman.
The 1-year-old recognized the father’s vehicle when he pulled into the driveway and she ran toward it, McPhail added.
“They didn’t see her get hit, but heard the other child cry out,” he said. The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital, McPhail added.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office website identified Nataly Lopez, 1, as the victim.
“I don’t anticipate we will make (an arrest),” McPhail said, noting it clearly was an accident.
Alcohol and speed were not factors, he said.
