A car chase ended in a fiery blaze early Thursday when the fleeing suspect’s car caught fire in Rio Linda.
Just after 2 a.m., Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull a Honda driver over for vehicle code violations near Elkhorn Boulevard and 26th Street in Rio Linda, said Sgt. Tony Turnbull, department spokesman, in an email. The driver, Samuel Reyes, 31, instead drove off, leading deputies in a pursuit that at times approached 100 mph, Turnbull said.
The chase ended when the car caught fire in the area of Cherri Lynn Avenue and West Second Street. Turnbull said Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department personnel responded and extinguished the fire. Reyes was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and evading officers.
