The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a shooting Saturday that left one man dead in the Greenhaven area, according to Officer Traci Trapani, department spokeswoman.
The shooting took place about 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Florin Road and Gloria Drive, near John F. Kennedy High School, she said.
When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway. Despite life-saving procedures, he was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento Fire Department personnel, Trapani said.
Additional officers arrived and canvassed the area for evidence. After talking to several witnesses, they were led to believe the assailant had run into a nearby apartment complex.

Officers established a perimeter and found the suspected gunman in an apartment, Trapani said. He peacefully surrendered and was in police custody by 2:30 p.m.
Trapani said she did not know whether the suspect lived in the apartment or if there was any relationship between the man killed and the man taken into custody. A department news release stated that the shooting happened after an argument between the victim and suspect escalated.
She said the identity of both men would be released later.
