Nevada County deputies shot and killed an armed man Tuesday who was believed to have assaulted his mother.
Dustin Kirk, 35, of Grass Valley was shot after deputies were called about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday to the dispute between the man and his mother at a home in the 13000 block of Brookview Drive, southeast of Grass Valley, authorities said.
Deputies had been told that Kirk was under the influence of alcohol and had physically assaulted his mother. Just minutes after arriving at the home, deputies were confronted by Kirk, who had a firearm.
The deputies “engaged” Kirk before firing their weapons and killing him, according to a Nevada County Sheriff’s Office news release.
