A Live Oak man was killed and a Yuba City woman suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision Thursday on Highway 99 in Sutter County.
A 27-year-old man was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant south on Highway 99 north of Coleman Avenue in Live Oak at 11:07 a.m. Witnesses reported that the vehicle had been weaving back and forth, crossing the double-yellow lines into the northbound lane, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The Mitsubishi crossed into the northbound lane directly in front of a northbound 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Neymi G. Leon Mendoza. Mendoza swerved to the right in an effort to avoid the collision, but the Mitsubishi hit her truck head-on, the news release said.
The Mitsubishi came to rest facing southeast in the northbound lane, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of family.
