A 3-year-old girl drowned in the Calaveras River on Friday after falling into the water while on a walk with her mother, officials said in a press release.
The Calaveras County sheriff said the girl was walking on a dirt trail with her mother and a baby boy in the vicinity of the River of Skulls Nature Trail below Hogan Dam, which is west of San Andreas. She fell down an embankment and was swept away in the river.
Hogan rangers found her and pulled her out of the water, but they were unable to revive her. She was taken to Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas, where she was pronounced dead.
The girl has not been identified.
