CHP: Teen driver killed, passenger injured in single-vehicle crash near Lincoln

A 17-year-old Rocklin girl died and her passenger was injured Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 65 near Lincoln.

The crash occurred about 2:35 p.m. on northbound Highway 65, north of Twelve Bridges Drive, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

Witnesses told the CHP that the 2015 Nissan Sentra was traveling at high speed on the right shoulder and passing several vehicles when it struck a guardrail then hit a large metal pole supporting the exit sign for Lincoln Boulevard.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.

The male passenger, who was in the front passenger seat, was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with major injuries, according to the news release.

The CHP said it is not known whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

The No. 2 traffic lane on Highway 65 was closed for about 2 1/2 hours in the area of the crash.
