A vehicle accident that downed a power pole at Taft Street and El Camino Avenue in the Arden Arcade area caused more than 9,000 to lose power early Wednesday, said Chris Capra, Sacramento Municipal Utility District spokesman.

The outage began about 6:45 a.m. and has affected service for the Sacramento Regional Transit’s Blue Line from Watt Avenue to Alkali Flat, according to a tweet by the transportation agency. As of 8 a.m., power was restored all but 61 customers, Capra said. He said power for those customers will remain out for several hours as the pole is replaced.

The downed power line was caused after a woman drove her car into a power pole on Taft Street and El Camino Avenue moments before the outage began, said Sacramento Police Department spokesman Matthew McPhail. The force of the collision caused her car to flip over. The 24-year-old woman was sent to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to survive, McPhail said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
