Fire sweeps through two businesses, apartment on Jackson’s Main Street

A smoky fire early Thursday caused extensive damage to two businesses and an upstairs apartment on Main Street in Jackson.

Jackson Fire Department crews responded to the fire in the 30 block of Main Street about 1:30 a.m. The first crews found heavy smoke and fire in two commercial buildings that had spread to an apartment over one of the buildings.

Fire crews attacked the fire from both Main Street and the other side of the structures on Highway 49. The fire was under control by 4 a.m.

Heavy damage was reported in both businesses and the apartment. One of the businesses affected was Richard & Sherry’s Collectables, 33 Main St.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
