The California Highway Patrol is investigating a rollover accident that killed one and injured two others Thursday morning in Citrus Heights.

A man who died Thursday morning when his pickup overturned on Sunrise Boulevard in Rancho Cordova has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner as Jose Chavez Mendoza, 42, of Sacramento.

CHP spokesman Officer Tommy Riggin said the driver of a pickup with two passengers was observed by witnesses about 7:15 a.m. driving in and out of traffic.

While traveling southbound, south of Douglas Boulevard near Chrysanthy Boulevard, the driver lost control and ran off the road. The pickup overturned several times and ended up back on the pavement.

One passenger was ejected but is expected to live. Another passenger was able to walk away from the wreckage and wait for officers.

The driver was partially ejected and died at the scene.
