Woman arrested in shooting of roommate at Citrus Heights home

A 54-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly shooting her roommate Thursday morning.

Citrus Heights police received a report about 10:35 a.m. that a person had been shot in the leg in the backyard of a residence in the 7500 block of Philomena Way. Officers found the victim, a 46-year-old man, with a gunshot wound to the torso, according to a Police Department news release. The man, who was conscious and alert, told officers that he had been shot one time by his roommate.

The roommate, identified by police as Melanie Rasmussen of Citrus Heights, was present when officers arrived and was detained.

The wounded man was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive, the news release said.

Rasmussen was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
