Q: The Stockton case of the elderly woman murdered by suspect Alvin Guy Davis seems to have stalled. Any updates?
A: Alvin Larry Davis, intially identified by police as Alvin Guy, was arrested in April 2016 and charged with the July 2012 murder and sexual assault of 84-year-old Hazel Dingman.
According to San Joaquin County Superior Court records available online, Davis, 77, was found competent to stand trial and his next court appearance, to set a trial date, is scheduled for June 5.

Police received a 911 call shortly after 4 p.m. July 5, 2012, from Dingman’s daughter, who reported she had found her mother’s body in her home at 572 Downing St. She had been brutally beaten and raped. Forensic evidence linked Davis to the case, according to a Stockton Police Department news release issued at the time of his arrest last year in Las Vegas.
Police said Davis is a registered sex offender with a 1991 conviction for lewd acts with a minor 14 or 15 years old.
