A retired law enforcement officer is credited with apprehending a suspected package thief in Granite Bay.
The retired officer witnessed the theft of the package from the front of a home in the 6400 block of Eureka Road on May 16. He followed the suspect’s vehicle and called the Placer County sheriff’s dispatch center.
When the suspect, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as 36-year-old Christopher Dietrich of Granite Bay, realized he was being followed, he tossed the package from the car, according to a Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. He then got out of the vehicle to confront his pursuer.
The retired officer drew his weapon and held Dietrich at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
