Man arrested in connection with Oak Park fire spree

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with three fires earlier this month in the Oak Park area, Sacramento Fire Department officials report.

Alexander Alvarado was arrested Monday after evidence obtained during an investigation linked him to the latest fire May 7 in the 2700 block of Ninth Avenue, according to a department news release.

While fire investigators were processing the fire scene on Ninth Avenue, they were notified by the Sacramento Police Department that Alvarado had been identified as a passenger in a nearby traffic stop. Evidence discovered during the stop linked Alvarado to the burned structure, the release said.

Alvarado was arrested on suspicion of arson of an inhabited structure and burglary. He was also linked to deliberately set fires May 3 in the 3500 block of 38th Street and May 5 in the 3700 block of Seventh Avenue, according to the department.

The Fire Department encourages anybody with information regarding these incidents to contact the arson tip line at 916-808-8732 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
