The bicyclist killed in an early-morning hit-and-run crash in south Sacramento has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 25-year-old Justin Vega.
No city of residence was listed for Vega on the coroner’s website.
Sacramento police were called to the area of Elder Creek Road near Florin-Perkins Road about 3:21 a.m. Friday regarding a possible hit-and-run collision. Officers found Vega lying on the edge of the roadway. The Sacramento Fire Department responded and, after lifesaving efforts, pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to a Police Department news release.
Detectives believe that Vega – who was wearing dark clothes and riding a black beach-cruiser-style bicycle with a headlight – may have been westbound on Elder Creek Road and was on the north edge of the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The collision is believed to have occurred between 11 p.m. Thursday and 12:30 a.m. Friday, the news release said.
