Sacramento police are looking for a driver who reportedly ran a red light, hit a patrol car and fled the scene in downtown Sacramento early Monday morning.
The hit-and-run occurred as two officers were transporting someone to the Sacramento Main Jail at about 2 a.m. for an unrelated incident, said Sgt. Bryce Heinlein, a department spokesman.
As the officer’s car reached the intersection of Sixth and I streets, a driver on I Street ran a red light and hit the back of the vehicle with their car.
Both officers and the person sitting in the back of the car were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Responding officers arrived at the scene, and arrested one man who a witness said was dropped off by the suspect vehicle after the crash.

That man was arrested for public intoxication and is not believed to be the driver, Heinlein said. The driver was still being sought by police Monday afternoon. Heinlein said detectives in the case were not releasing information about the man arrested in connection with the hit-and-run or the suspect vehicle.
