The first fatal crash of 2017 in West Sacramento occurred Tuesday night when a truck driven by a suspected DUI driver hit and killed a pedestrian.
The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4800 block of West Capital Avenue. A car and a truck were traveling westbound on West Capital Avenue when the vehicles crashed and the truck also hit a woman standing near a bus stop. The exact sequence of the events was being investigated Wednesday morning.
The woman, who has not been identified, died at the scene, according to West Sacramento Police Sgt. Roger Kinney.
The driver of the car was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver, 23-year-old Gerardo Lopez of West Sacramento, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.
