An Antelope man pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to selling counterfeit car airbags on eBay.
Vitaliy Fedorchuk, 28, pleaded guilty to five counts of mail fraud, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Sacramento.
Court documents say that between June 23, 2014, and July 27, 2016, Fedorchuk sold airbag modules, covers and manufacturer emblems through his eBay online store called redbarnautoparts.
He advertised that the airbags were original equipment from major auto manufacturers such as Honda, Fiat, Chrysler, Nissan, Toyota, GMC and Ford. The documents say that Fedorchuk sold hundreds of the counterfeit airbags, bringing in more than $95,000.

Auto makers told law enforcement that airbag items such as covers and emblems are not sold individually. The items are instead sold as part of an airbag assembly to authorized dealers.
Also, airbags are never sold on eBay and must be purchased from an authorized dealer. Authentic airbags have distinctive markings that include the date of production, but Fedorchuk’s merchandise did not, the press release said.
Fedorchuk is scheduled to be sentenced in October.
