The body recovered Monday from the American River near Robie Point in the Auburn area was identified Thursday by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office coroner as that of Raymond Cabalfin Jr. of Sacramento.

Cabalfin, 19, went missing on May 11, when he jumped into the water after hiking the Lake Clementine Trail near Auburn. Video shot by friends and briefly posted on Facebook showed him jumping into the water alongside a young woman. The woman popped out of the water, but the video showed Cabalfin was swept away.

His body was recovered Monday three miles downstream from where Cabalfin was last seen, according to Scott Liske, supervising ranger for the Auburn State Recreation Area.

Cabalfin’s family was notified that a body had been recovered, but it was left to the coroner to make the positive identification due to the condition of the body.
