The man whose body was found Monday morning in the shrubbery outside the Jesse M. Unruh state building in downtown Sacramento died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities say..
The body was found by a state employee about 6 a.m. Monday next to the windows of the Unruh building on the Ninth Street side between L Street and Capitol Mall. California Highway Patrol and Sacramento police officers arrived to investigate before coroner’s deputies took custody of the body.
The dead man, who was not identified, was estimated to be 45 to 50 years old.
“At this time it appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said CHP Officer Christina Sabol.

The building’s tenants include the State Treasurer’s Office and the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, which administers the federal and state low-income housing tax credit programs.
