Rancho Corodva Little League parents were busy enough preparing for a weeklong tournament when they found themselves cleaning up after vandals who struck their concession building sometime Saturday night or early Sunday.
Dennis Lamantia, Rancho Cordova Little League president, said someone pried open the lock and steel door to enter the building, then pulled candy and chips from shelves, strewing them on the floor. Food also was pulled out of the freezer and it appeared someone tried to cook something in the microwave, he said.
The vandalism came on the eve of the District 5 Little League Tournament. Teams from throughout northeast Sacramento County will compete on the Rancho Cordova fields Monday through June 12, Lamantia said.
As of Monday afternoon, Lamantia said, he was awaiting further word from a Moose Club representative who had a lead on a replacement steel door for the building.

Lamantia said Rancho Cordova Little League suffered more serious losses in April when someone broke into its maintenance shed, taking mowers, weed cutters, edgers, and hand tools such as sockets and wrenches. The loss in that case was estimated to be about $5,000, he said.
Insurance is expected to cover some of the losses, but Lamantia said the thefts and damage are disheartening.
“They are only hurting the kids,” he said.
