Nevada deputies arrested a man Thursday on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a man across the state border in Nevada County.
Kenneth Pestana, 61, was found dead Wednesday night in the 22000 block of Highway 20 outside of Nevada City. Foul play was suspected, although details on how he was killed were not released.
Nevada County authorities began investigating and issued an arrest warrant for Pestana’s suspected killer, Joseph Ward, 27, of Douglas County, Nev.
On Thursday, Carson City sheriff’s deputies in Nevada found Pestana’s vehicle outside on apartment complex on Airport Road in their jurisdiction. At some point, Ward left an apartment with a Rottweiler dog.

When approached by deputies, the dog was aggressive toward officers, according to a news release from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The dog was shot and killed by deputies.
Ward was taken into custody and was being held in Carson City Jail before extradition to California.
