The body of a man was found outside the Unruh building at Ninth and Capitol Mall on Monday, June 5, 2017, and the California Highway Patrol says the victim probably died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man whose body was found Monday morning in the shrubbery outside the Jesse M. Unruh state building in downtown Sacramento more than likely committed suicide.

The California Highway Patrol early this week said that David Brown, 57, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. An initial Sacramento County Coroner's Office investigation indicates that Brown’s death was a suicide.

His body was found by a state employee about 6 a.m. Monday next to the windows of the Unruh building on the Ninth Street side between L Street and Capitol Mall. The coroner’s website did not list a place of residence for Brown.

The building's tenants include the State Treasurer’s Office and the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, which administers the federal and state low-income housing tax credit programs.
