Coroner’s office identifies man killed in Oak Park shooting

A man who died after he was found shot in Oak Park early Monday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 54-year-old Michael Smith of Sacramento.

Sacramento police officers responded at about 12:20 a.m. to reports that a person had been shot in the 3400 block of 33rd Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they found an unresponsive man lying on the ground in front of a home. He had a life-threatening gunshot wound to his body, and was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators searched the area for any potential evidence or witnesses. It is unknown whether the killer ran away or fled in a vehicle. A motive for the shooting has not been established.
