It took a team effort of deputies, California Highway Patrol officers and animal control personnel to corral a herd of sheep who got onto the road in Placer County.
The nighttime round-up of hundreds of sheep occurred Sunday when the livestock made a break from their pen and blocked traffic on Fiddyment Road at Sunset Boulevard West, a rural area near Thunder Valley Casino Resort.
Traffic was stopped while officers moved the herd into a field where they were corralled.
All, that is, but one recalcitrant sheep who led deputies on a foot pursuit, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The uncooperative straggler was brought into custody and taken via patrol car back to the field to rejoin the flock.
